If you were born in the 80's in Singapore,
you probably remember these...
& some of those that were born in the 70's
but grew up in the 80's as well...
I was the last batch of the 80's. ^^

You would remember:

You grew up watching He-man, MASK, Transformers, Silver Hawk and Mickey Mouse, Ninja turtles, Carebears, Robocop, My Little Pony and Smurfs.
I only remember watching mickey mouse, lao fu zi , doremon

You grew up brushing your teeth with a mug in Primary school during recess time. You would squat by a drain with all your classmates beside you, and brush your teeth with a coloured mug.
I dont squat by a drain, I brush in front of a basin. Haha.

You hated or loved the school nurse (she was either pretty or mean).
i love the dental nurse, everyweek i will go find her. she dislikes me as i always bither her by asking her weekly "so this tooth can be plucked out now???=PP)

You know what SBC stands for.
Dunno

You paid 40 cents for cartons of Chocolate or Strawberry milk every week in class.
Yeap!

Everyone's wallet used to be the velcro type.
I dun remebr on this. haa

It was cool to have pagers in primary school.
Those were the time pagers were like our handphone now.
& the excuses usually were "no payphone cannot call home lah!"
Later invention, we were allowed to type out a string of msg, just like "sms".
Not sure if we type correctly coz we cant see them.

SBS buses used to be non-airconditioned. The bus seats are made of wood and the cushion were red. The big red bell gave a loud BEEP! when pressed.
I remember sitting non-airconditioned SBS buses, but I dont remember what its the colour & what its made of.

There were still bus tickets and bus conductors would come up to check them.

& we will fold them into hearts...

Envelopes were given to us to donate to Sharity Elephant every Children's Day.
That cute ele! broke then eh

You've probably read Young Generation magazine. You know who's Vinny the little vampire and Acai the constable.
HAHAHA. My favourite magazine!!!

You know what PETS are and the hidden animals in all the text pages. You hated penmanship.
I used to seach for the hidden animals during class. Penmanship is my first english homework & it sucks. Tracing all the words & if your writing is ugly, your mum will erase & ask you to rewrite.

Writing lines and caning hands were common, esp if you failed chinese spelling.
I NV FAIL my chinese stuffs be4=P

You were there when they first introduced the MRT here. You went for the first ride with your parents and you would kneel on the seat to see the scenery.
I dont really have the chance of taking train when Im young.took oni when i reach sec 1?

Movie tickets used to cost only $3.50.
my parent paid for it, thus i dunno the price.

Gals were fascinated by Strawberry Short Cake and Barbie Dolls.
BARBIEEE! Anyone remembers Polly Pocket too? LOL. Just a query, does anyone knows whether Polly Pocket still exist now? Coz I dont see them selling anywhere.

You learn to laugh like The Count in Sesame Street.
nah.

You bought tidbits called beebee (20 cents per pack, 10 cents in MGS), and mamee (30 cents), that had a different sticker in it every time.
My recess.

You carried a lunch box to school but either threw away the food or brought it back home again.
my mum nv packs for me de.

You watched TV2 (also known as Channel 10) cartoons because Channel 5 never had enough cartoons for you.

Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, The Three Investigators, Famous Five and Secret Seven were probably the thickest story books you thought you would ever read.
Yes, Nancy Drew.

KFC used to be a high class restaurant that served food in plates and had metal forks and knives.
Really??

The most vulgar thing you said was asshole and idiot and THE MOST EXTREME WAS 'chicken pie'...you just couldn't bring yourself to say the hokkien translation. I think so?

Catching and pepsi-cola was the IN thing, and twist was the magic word.
Pepsi-cola 1 2 3!

Your English workbooks were made of some damn poor quality paper that was smooth and yellow.
think so

You came to school 15 mins before the bell every morning just so you could copy someone's homework.
Then you will put your bag in class & assemble in the parade square.

CDIS was your best friend.
Very familiar, its the .... mmmmm...

The only computer lessons in school involved funny pixellized characters in 16 colours walking about trying to teach you math.
I remember learning math & typing in computer lessons, whether is 16 colour or not, I dont remember.

Waterbottles were slung around your neck and a must everywhere you went.
The trend.

Boys loved to play soccer with small stones or tennis balls in the basketball court.
My time, boys play with cans & bottles.

Girls played five stones and boys played with marbles.
YEAP

Science was fun with the Balsam and the Angsana being the most important plants of our lives, guppies and swordtail being the most important fishes.

Who can forget Ahmad, Bala, Sumei and John, immortalized in our minds from school textbooks.
Now then I realise, its always these 4.

We conducted experiments of our own to get badges for being a Young Zoologist/Botanist etc.
I am a Young Botanist k! Dont pray pray. LOL!

Every Children's day and National day you either got pins or pens with 'Happy Children's Day 1993' or useless plastic files with 'Happy National Day 1994'.

You wore BM2000, BATA, or Pallas shoes.
BM 2000 & BATA!

Your form teacher taught you Maths, Science and English.

You went to school in slippers and a raincoat when it rained, and you find a dry spot in the school to sit down, dry your feet, and wear your dry and warm socks and shoes.
yeah

There would be spelling tests and mental sums to do almost everyday (you hated them).
Irritating lor! I cant watch my tv.

Your friends considered you lucky and rich if your parents gave you $2 or more for pocket money everyday.
I only got $1. Coz fishballs were sold 20cents, chicken wings cost around 30cents & a bowl of noodles or rice its only 50cents the most with a drink which cost around 20cents & its a meal for me, for most of us.

You saw Wee Kim Wee's face in the school hall.

Boys liked catching fighting spiders, earthworms or tadpoles.

Collecting and battling erasers was a pastime for boys.

Class monitors and prefects loved to say, "You talk somemore, I write your name ah!"
I am one of them who says that. I remember carrying a small blue note book everytime I walk around. Wahahaa.

You got booked for muddy shoes in class.

There were at least 40 people in one class.

You brought every single book to school, even though there was a timetable.
HEAVY never existed to decribe my bag back then.

There was a pro-yo/bumblebee, digimon craze at some point in time.
Ahhar! Tamagochi too! Everyone will carry a chain of them. & all these were sold in 7-Eleven. Haha.

Those in bold is what I experienced & remember,
pink is my comment on it.
Reminiscing childhood is so funny,
laughing at the stupid things you did.

& I added few more...
- PINK are meant only for girls, BLUE are only for boys & PURPLE is the GAY colour. Other colour never existed.

- Girls running around, screaming, hitting the boys.
- Girls & boys carrying handkerchiefs, & girls' with cute pictures.
- Rolling of our socks down & keeping it high like soccer socks is cool.
- Plastic files with many dividers.

- Bus Cards were with pictures & you can request to change if the picture fade off.
- HDB walls often paint with the cute lion picture.
- We uses Bus stamps & the stamps will stick on top of one another.
- Coming school early to play "catching" & "crocodile."
- The bag to keep the drawing blocks is always fanciful.
- Grabbed tibits for recess & rushed to gather at the sit up bench & monkey bars.

The later Stage...
- Everyone knows who are BSB, Westlife & N'Sync. Boybands were hot fav then.
- Aqua & all the BEST 199* were in top chart.
- No X-Box, No Play Station, we have only Sega with many cartridge.
- Counter Strike, Red Alert, Mario, Sonic, Street Fighters were the common games.
- No DVD, No CD, we only have the square diskette.
- Everyone carried high small Outdoor Bags or JPG pouch.
- Baby G, G-Shock was your "Gucci".
- AhLians having their shirt tuck in to the end with their hair tied very low, AhBengs tuck out with either armani hairstlye or center parting. Both 100% with their pointed comb.
- Sea Of Love By Daze, Moonlight Shadow, Amor Infinitus, Walking In The Sun.
etc. etc. etc.
